topic of superiority

Been listening to a fair bit of Jrock and it reminded me of an article about a Japanese professor. It also made me think a fair bit but being the ‘un-philosophical’ person that I am, the thought didn’t go much further. Wanna know what I was thinking? Read further.

During the Japanese Occupation, most countries in Asia have suffered their wrath. Since I’m from Malaysia I shall be talking from the Malaysia point of view. In our history books, we were exposed to the cruel facts during the Japanese Occupation. For those of you who have read the History textbooks should be well aware of how the Japanese tortured us and degraded our dignity.

This article in the newspaper talked of one survivor and there was a picture of a wound he obtained when he was caught alongside with his family by the Japanese soldiers. It was caused by a bayonet and his mum died protecting him. The soldier stabbed his mum a lot of times before the bayonet cut into him. He also said that the Japanese cut open his brother’s stomach and threw him a few feet away. I mean, how inhumane can the Japanese get?

The Japanese professor says that because the Japanese were the first country in Asia to achieve industrialisation, they think they are superior. He wants the Japanese to know what they have done to so many people during the Japanese Occupation which was not really explained correctly in their books.

And now to think that we almost ‘idolise’ them for their music, their animation, etc. it just seems I don’t know, weird. After all the injustice done to us, we place them on the same level as gods to some extent. I know we can’t blame the younger generation for the inhumane acts done by the older generation but to think that these younger Japanese actually get their genes from the older generation makes me wonder if somewhere deep inside those genetic codes are the same mind-set. Makes you think, no?
