something in the night

Light

I was forever groping in the dark,
Not knowing where I was going,
Not knowing what I was doing,
That was until I met you.

It was like I was on the brink of death,
In the dark tunnel emerged a light,
It was faint at first,
But it grew stronger.

I walked towards it,
Attracted by the warmness,
It called to me,
And I readily answered.

You were like that light,
Providing me guidance,
When everything seemed lost,
When everything seemed bleak.

You were like a compass,
Always showing me where to go,
All I need to do is follow you,
And everything will be okay.

Even when you do not have the answers,
Your presence provides me with much comfort,
I felt as if your aura just envelops me,
Keeping me safe from the world.

You seemed untainted,
Untouchable even,
I couldn’t have you,
As hard as I try.

I smiled in irony,
I thought I could have anything,
But the one thing I want most,
Is the one thing I can’t have.

I was sleeping one night and suddenly, something inspired me to write a poem like that. It was odd that I felt real lonely that night, it’s been some time since I last felt that way. All of a sudden I was overcome by the sudden feeling of wanting someone to just hug me and keep me warm though the thought is pretty far fetched. The feeling was so overwhelming that I did tear a little but it went as sudden as it came and I just passed into slumber land. Weird.
